I’ll never forget the first time I was introduced to Henry T. Blackaby and Claude V. King’s Experiencing God book! It was back in 2010. My church was going through it during our evening Bible study time.
Wow, did it change my life! It opened the floodgates for me and I began drawing nearer and nearer to my personal Lord and Savior.
It’s a book that really helps to deepens one’s relationship with God and leads one down the path of seeking out God’s will.
Experiencing God would make a great impact in the life of a believer just starting out, as well as believers that have been walking with the Lord for some time. In fact, as I’m thinking about all I could share about this powerful study, it’s making me want to go through it again! It’s one of those studies that makes you want more and MORE.
The thirst is strong with this book!
It’s a study that really helps to deepen one’s relationship with God.

What I love most about this book . . .
Everything!!!
You just have to experience it for yourself. (See what I did there…) The title sums it up!
EXPERIENCING GOD helps one’s heart and soul to seek to know and do God’s will. It’s not our plans, but God’s plans we should pursue, and this book does a great job honing in on that.
Through the Holy Spirit’s guidance this book reveals amazing truths and draws us closer to God’s will.
The heart of eternal life and the heart of this study is for you to know God

You’ll definitely want to pull out your favorite pens, highlighters, and spiral notebook / journal for this one! There will be LOTS of great stuff worth jotting down as you make your way through this powerful book.
More goodies found throughout this book . . .
The chapter layout is great! Each chapter is a “doable” amount to read, whether you break it up throughout the week or read it all in one setting. At the end of each chapter there is a summary, which is helpful especially if you’re tackling one chapter in numerous reading sessions, and an “experiencing God today” section. Both are short reads and help bring all the information found in the chapter together nicely.
The book is filled with thought-provoking questions that help reiterate the concepts, and make for some great journaling starters.
It’s also filled with lists! I LOVE lists! The lists found throughout the book are such a helpful tool, and it’s always nice when a book includes a layout like this. It draws more attention to what you’re reading, and it leaves room in the margins for notes. Check out this example from chapter 12…
When the Holy Spirit reveals a spiritual truth from the Word of God, He is personally relating to your life. That is an encounter with God. The sequence is this:
- You read the Word of God – the Bible.
- The Spirit of truth takes the Word of God and reveals truth.
- You adjust your life to the truth of God.
- You obey Him.
- God works in and through you to accomplish His purpose.

There’s also a workbook that goes along with it, a Bible study including video access, and a Bible – all things I have not had the pleasure of reading, but the Bible is definitely one on my list of things to get.
