A Great Frog Reminder

A Great Frog Reminder

Homeschool Resources For A Great Frog Reminder Coloring Bible Adventure

F.R.O.G. Stands For Forever Rely On God

My mom first introduced me to this acronym! Thank you, mom!!! Love you lots!!

You wanna know one of the best things about this acronym?! It’s simple enough to teach to the youngest of hearts! So, I knew this would have to be the first Coloring Bible Adventure Book I wrote/designed for kids! Also, who doesn’t love a frog?!?

You know…the kind you can color, or the soft squishy ones you can snuggle, or a painted one that hangs up on the wall, or…well, you get my drift. I’m not sure how well I’d do if I were to have one as a real, live pet?? I mean I’m the lady that has a few toads that reside in my strawberry bushes and they always seem to scare me with their surprise, full-on turbo, leaps out of the leaves into my face!! Oh, I’m sure it’s their simple way of saying, “Hey lady, don’t forget I live here so be nice when you water these strawberries“, but they still seem to scare me EVERY SINGLE TIME!! So, when I say I love frogs, I mean I love what they stand for.

Every single time I see a frog, it reminds me that I can fully, 100%, always, FOREVER rely on God!! AND…this is the kind of news we should be teaching our kids, spreading around, and resting in!

Teach Your Kids The F.R.O.G. Acronym

Maybe you ran across this post because you have a kiddo that loves frogs, and/or you’re on the hunt for a fun way to teach your kids about trusting in God?? Or, perhaps you purchased my “A Great Frog Reminder Coloring Bible Adventure” and you’re looking for some extra resources to help teach this concept further?? Whatever the reason, I’m so very glad you’re here!! I love sharing my love for this acronym and I’ve got some fun teaching ideas that will help you expand this lesson even further with the kids in your life!

If this is your first time visiting A Heart Filled, WELCOME!! My name is Becky. I had the privilege of homeschooling my two kids all the way through to high school graduation. Each summer I always looked forward to preparing for the upcoming school year’s plans! I loved it so much!! Exploring new and exciting ways to teach my kids was what it was all about for me. So, make sure to explore my other homeschool posts and the “about Becky” page for more details on my family’s homeschool journey.

My kids were only one “school year” apart so finding unit studies and curriculum we could all sit down and explore together was one of my favorites! When my kids were in their younger years I loved creating unit studies for us to dive into. I gathered material from various sources and got to work coming up with a plan that we’d loosely follow as we explored each topic. It was something I enjoyed doing, and now that my kids have graduated I am realizing I miss the “planning”!! So, I thought it would be fun to add some homeschool resources/unit study ideas here at A Heart Filled that go along with my Coloring Bible Adventure Books.

One of the most important aspects of homeschooling my kids was being able to teach the Bible to them. Honestly, teaching the Bible in general is such a wonderful blessing! And, to have the opportunity to read through/teach it to my kids, as we journeyed through the homeschool years, was a gift I will always cherish. So, I’m here to encourage you to open up those Bibles and fill those hearts! And, along the way teach your kids about the acronym – F.R.O.G.!! Cuz, once they learn this one every time they see a frog they’ll be reminded of God’s promises and know without doubt He can be trusted!

Forever Rely On God BIBLE Lesson Plan Ideas

If I were to plan to teach this to my own kids here’s how I’d go about it…

First, I’d dig into my Bible and gather a list of verses that would help teach my kids how they can truly trust God and then I’d teach them the verses! Spending time in the Bible teaching this acronym is where it’s at, mommas. There are so many different ways you could go about teaching this to them.

F.R.O.G. Bible Verses –

  • Proverbs 3:5
  • Joshua 1:9
  • Philippians 4:13
  • Jeremiah 29:11

Bible Verse Lesson Plan Examples –

  • Read the Bible verses aloud to your kids, or have them look them up on their own and read them aloud, and then discuss what they mean together.
  • If they are old enough, play a Bible scavenger hunt and see if they can find a few verses that talk about trusting in God.
  • Write the Bible verses out together on index cards and hang them around your home so they can be seen. Encourage your kids to memorize the verses, and even better…memorize them with your kids!!

Second, I’d plan to teach a Bible story, or two, that revolve around trusting in the Lord. Again, this requires the momma to spend some time in God’s Word first. (It’s always better when our momma hearts are filled first!💞)

F.R.O.G. Bible Stories –

  • Joseph’s Story (Genesis 37:1-50:26)
  • Esther’s Story (Esther 1:1-10:3)

Bible Story Lesson Plan Examples –

  • Read the Bible story together and discuss how it applies to the frog acronym – “Forever Rely On God”.
  • After reading the story, have your kids act it out. Let them put on a “show” for you, or have them teach the story back to you. Get creative and have fun with this!
  • Get crafty! Find some coloring sheets that go along with the story, or have your kids draw the story out. (For coloring sheets, DLTK’s Crafts for Kids is one of the places I like to look!)
  • Watch a movie that relates to the Bible story! Depending on the Bible story you teach, there’s a good possibility there’s a movie out there that goes along with it.

Take This Lesson A Step Further AND Turn It Into A Unit Study!

This acronym lesson doesn’t have to stop after you wrap up your Bible dig!

Let’s look at how you could turn this lesson into a unit study all about frogs!! You could really play around with this theme for as long as you want. That’s the beauty of a unit study!!

With frogs, I’m envisioning some math, science, and art lessons fitting in perfectly! (After you read through my lesson plan ideas, make sure you scroll all the way down to find free printables that go along with some of my suggestions!)

Idea #1 – I’d definitely want to get my hands on some frogs that I could “strew” around my house. Because having visuals scattered around always makes the lesson better! (For more on strewing CLICK HERE!) Depending on the age, I’d plan accordingly. Visuals could be anything really! Just think of things your kids would like and that would also help serve as a “frog” reminder.

Idea #1 Unit Study Examples For Younger Kids –

  • Felt Board Math! How about making a felt board and cutting out some felt frogs that the kids could play with. When my kids were younger I DIY’d my own felt board. I found a scrap board and covered it in felt. It was cheap, and my kids loved playing with all the felt things I’d cut out for them. You could even incorporate some math lessons with these felt frogs! (Making your own felt board doesn’t have to be complicating, just make due with what you have and/or what you can afford. You could even glue/staple felt squares to a piece of cardboard OR make a felt book by stapling a pile of felt squares together! Then get to cutting out some frog shapes and voilà you’ve DIY’d fun for hours!!)
  • Alphabet/Color Recognition Games! I’m also thinking a lily pad style game would be fun! Maybe cut out some foam lily pads and/or frogs and write the letters of the Alphabet separately on each one and play a Twister inspired version where they can practice recognizing the letters/sounds of the Alphabet while getting some exercise and game time in! I could even see this going a step further and cutting out different colored lily pads and/or frogs and turn it into a color recognition game!

Idea #1 Unit Study Examples For Older Kids –

  • Frog Journals! I always find such cute things when I browse the isles of my local dollar store! I especially like to look through their journals and sketchbooks. Finding some with frogs would be a great addition to your strewing attempts! But, if you can’t find frog themed ones…make your own!!I’m thinking some journaling and/or creative writing time could definitely go down in a frog journal/sketchbook! They could even take them to church and use them to take notes during the sermon! Place these in a basket with some frog stickers and colored pencils and see what happens!
  • Frog Books! This was always my go-to when I prepped for a new unit study! Finding books that fit the theme. AND, it works well for any age actually! A trip to your local library is all it takes!! Look for frog books you could strew around your home, or send your kids on a frog book mission and see what they find!
  • Pass Out Some Frogs! If you do a quick search online you’ll find you can purchase a bag of inexpensive plastic frogs. How about turning this into a service project and let your kids hand them out wherever they go! Encourage them to tell people what frog stands for – “forever rely on God”. When my kids were younger we made “warm fuzzies” and kept them on hand to give out to people at the grocery store, library, church, etc. It was a fun way for them to help brighten someone else’s day while teaching them how to spread around some cheer.

Idea #2 – I’d look into ways I could incorporate some “frog talk”, because if frogs are being discussed so can the acronym for frog!

Idea #2 Unit Study Example For Younger Kids –

  • A Morning Basket Filled With Frogs! When my kids were younger I loved using a morning basket! Our morning basket included the Bible devotion book we were reading through and quick activities the kids could play with while I was cleaning up after breakfast. (For example, board books, puzzles, games, art supplies, etc.) I tried to mix it up and add things that went along with what we were learning that week. So, to help incorporate “frog talk” might I suggest including some of the frog books you picked up at the library, or printing up some frog coloring sheets, or seeing if your local dollar store has any frog puzzles?!? These are just a few of the many ways you could spark up a conversation about frogs.

Idea #2 Unit Study Example For Older Kids –

  • A Frog Search! When my kids got old enough to use the computer they had a list of sites they could get on and explore. Being able to do their own “research” was a fun way to let them explore the topics we were learning about, and brought about many of enjoyable conversations that lead us down so many different rabbit trails! Honestly, the best kind of homeschool days are the ones where you chase the rabbit down the hole and get lost in the hunt. So, let these frog searches go where they go!

Idea #3 – Go outside and look for frogs! There’s endless lessons that can be learned when you venture outside, so make the time and do it. Fresh air and sunshine always makes the day better!

Idea #3 Unit Study Examples For All Ages –

  • A Frog Hunt Nature Walk! Just head out on your favorite trail and keep a lookout for frogs. Step it up a notch and turn it into a scavenger hunt!
  • A Frog Field Trip! I feel like a lesson on frogs wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the zoo! Also, if you have a pet store close by it might be worth looking into to see if they have any frogs. Trips like these always lead to more discovery, and mini lessons are bound to happen around every corner.
  • Frog Science Lessons! Learning about the frog life cycle would also be the perfect pair! And, then if you’re up for it let them experience it for themselves by raising one, or at least visit a pond and see if you could find any tadpoles.

Idea #4 – Get crafty! Arts and crafts are one of those things you either do or you don’t. But, can I just say it’s worth it!?! Giving your kids time to work on arts and crafts has its benefits! Art can be therapeutic, gives the brain a great workout, and helps kids explore their own creativity. There’s just something special about taking the time to get your art on. Also, this would be a great way to wrap up the lesson because you could incorporate some of the Bible verses you discussed into these projects!

Idea #4 Unit Study Examples For All Ages –

  • Learn How to Draw/Paint A Frog! I love to paint! So, of course, I’m going to suggest giving your kids a canvas and paintbrush. There’s lots of fun tutorials online to help kids learn how to draw and/or paint a frog. It’s worth the search!
  • Host A Frog Craft Day! There are so many fun ways to craft a frog! How about turning it into a day filled with frog crafts! Invite your friends over and craft away! I’m thinking frog collages, frog ceramics, crocheted frogs, frog pillows, jeweled frogs, frog jewelry, frog mosaics…seriously, so many possibilities! Need some inspiration?? Do a quick search on Pinterest and you’ll come across so many fun ideas!! You can CLICK HERE and check out some of the craft ideas I have pinned to get you started.
  • Gift A Frog Craft! What about making a frog gift for a friend or family member?! Passing along this special frog reminder will not only teach your kids the importance of giving, but it will help others remember they too can Forever Rely On God!
