A Song In Our Heart

John 20 was the inspiration that brought the song, In The Garden, to life! This chapter is where we read about Jesus’ resurrection. If you read through the resurrection account in each of the four Gospels you’ll find that Mary Magdalene was the first person to talk with Jesus after His resurrection (Mark 16:9). She speaks to Him in the ‘garden’ (John 20:15). Hence, the title of the song and the meaning behind the lyrics. Not only does this song reflect upon the conversation Jesus had with Mary, but it reminds us that we too can go to the ‘garden’ and speak with our Savior and Lord.

Garden Moments

In John 20, we read about Jesus speaking with Mary in the garden and now I want to draw some attention to what Jesus did right before He was lead away to be crucified, because He leads by example!

See!? Jesus went to ‘a garden’ (aka the olive grove) and did the same thing that inspired this song! He was alone, in the garden, praying. What is prayer?? Open communication with God. Talking with Him! A one-on-one conversation with our Creator. We have an example to imitate and when we choose to do so we get our own garden moments with the Lord!! How amazing is that?!

There’s just something revitalizing about the scene this song portrays. To imagine going to a place full of life, yet so still we can hear His voice falling on our ear. The sound of His voice is so sweet not only does it hush the birds’ singing but it can also calm our hearts. Now, these are the kind of rest in His presence garden moments I want! How about you? Because in His presence there is JOY, there is love, and there is care.

Let’s fill our hearts with this song believing…

When we come to the garden alone He will walk with us AND He will talk with us!! If we quiet ourselves in His presence we will be able to hear His voice falling on our ear. We can be comforted by these garden moments knowing that our Heavenly Father is near. So, what are you waiting for?? It’s time to spend time with the One in the garden, praying and listening.
