God Is There For Us – Psalms 3:3-5

God Is There For Us – Psalms 3:3-5

“No circumstance, person, or difficulty
can stop the plans and the promises of God.”

David Jeremiah

The Bible is full of God’s encouraging promises.

Let’s take a peek at how GOD PROMISES TO BE THERE FOR US!

God's Promises are found in the Bible.

God is near and always there for us!

This promise is the comfort I need to muster through the hardest of days and the joy I feel on the best of days. Because of this promise I have peace and can endure with hope. Check out what David writes about in Psalms 3:3-5 when he was in survival mode running for his life!

“But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain. I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.”

Psalms 3:3-5 (NIV)

David knew all to well what it meant to rely on God. Can you imagine how David’s nights must have been like while he was on the run? I don’t know about you, but sleep would be the furthest from my mind yet David was able to rest. Why? Because he felt a peace that only God can give and David was certain his (our) Protector and Deliverer was there. All throughout the book of Psalms King David’s praises and prayers can be found, and one of the biggest themes behind them is GOD IS THERE. Find comfort knowing God is our shield and will sustain us. He will supply all the comfort and peace we need for every circumstance because He’s near.

A PROMISE – God Is There For Us!

It’s time to seek out some comfort and peace in God’s Holy Book! Below are a few Bible stories that will help affirm God’s promise to be there for us. God was there for the people we read about in the Bible and we can be assured He is also there for us.

EXAMPLES IN THE BIBLE

Joshua In Charge

Joshua 1:1-9 & Deuteronomy 31:1-8

In Joshua 1:1-9 God is speaking to Joshua and if we look closely at these verses we can be encouraged knowing these words were meant for us too! Before we get to the verses, I wanted to share a tidbit from my favorite study Bible. In the Life Application Study Bible readers are given a little glimpse of what’s getting ready to go down in the coming chapters. Here’s a little of what it mentions…

“God prepares both Joshua and the nation by teaching them the importance of courageous and consistent faith…Like Joshua, we, too, need faith to begin and continue living the Christian life.”

— Life Application Study Bible NLT (1996, 2004), p. 314

God’s promises never fail, but it’s important that we stay courageous and consistent in our faith. In order to experience God’s promise to always be there for us we really need to wrap our hearts up in a life worthy of His glory and stay connected with Him.

Let’s open our Bibles to Joshua 1!

Picking back up with the first chapter in Joshua, I’d like to focus in on verses 5 & 9 where we read God’s promise to be there. “No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.” Joshua 1:5 (NLT) & “This is my command — be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NLT)

God was there for Joshua!

Joshua was charged with leading the Israelites into the Promised Land, a mission Moses started and now was up to him to finish. God was with him and he made it apparently clear when He spoke the words we find in Joshua chapter 1. Moses also mentioned the same words to Joshua in Deuteronomy 31:6, 8. How cool is it to know that Joshua was told directly from God, and Moses, about this very promise?! And, the icing on the cake…we too have been given this same promise!

Claim God’s Promise!

I am constantly quoting Joshua 1:9. It’s a verse I use to encourage myself, my family, and those around me with. It’s comforting to know He will never abandon His children. These heartwarming promises are the encouraging gems that need to be sprinkled around everywhere we go. Let’s consistently open our Bibles and hearts and share this amazing news with others. As we walk by faith may we find encouragement believing…

God is there for us!

Ruth & Naomi’s Journey

Ruth 1:1-4:22

Ruth & Naomi’s story is found in the Old Testament, in the book of Ruth. It’s a story filled with love and devotion in the midst of loss and suffering. We can truly gain so much insight with this one little book of the Bible! I recently wrapped up a Bible study at my church about this very book of the Bible. If you haven’t already went through it, I highly recommend you checking out Kelly Minter’s Living Room Series – Ruth Bible Study. God revealed so much to me during this study, and I can’t say enough great things about all that I learned along the way. After all, it’s all about growing in our relationship with the one and only Maker of our souls in whom we build our trust in.

“She (Ruth) is an emblem of grace for every flawed and ailing sinner who has lived in her wake, not because of her own nobility but because of the One under whose wings she had come to trust – the God of Israel.”

— Kelly Minter, The Living Room Series, Ruth Bible Study (2009, 2022), p. 7

God is there for us, and under His wings is where we will find refuge! It’s this secure embrace that helps us know we are not alone and because of this promise we can keep moving forward.

Let’s open our Bibles to the book of Ruth!

The book of Ruth is a short read at just 4 chapters long, but it’s packed with lots of good stuff. The book starts our introducing us to Naomi’s family and a move they were getting ready to embark on. Once they settle in the new land Naomi’s husband dies, but after this heartache God gifts her with 2 daughter-in-laws. <loss sprinkled with some joy> This is where Ruth enters the scene. She marries Naomi’s son, Mahlon. Some time later both Mahlon and his brother die. <more loss and suffering, yet graced with blessings> With the loss of her husband and 2 sons Naomi is left alone, in a foreign country, with 2 daughter-in-laws. To sum up the rest of the story, Naomi and Ruth journey back to Bethlehem. Ruth then makes it her mission to care for Naomi, and through her selfless love and sacrifice their lives are mended.

God was there for Ruth & Naomi!

God’s intervention in both Ruth and Naomi’s lives is nothing short of a miracle. God had a plan far greater than these two could have imagined, and it was because He went before them and was with them that they were able to walk out of a life filled with despair and heartache into a life filled with hope and joy.

The reason I chose to highlight this story is because around every bend God was there! He was there when Naomi’s husband moved his family. (Ruth 1:1-2) He was there when Ruth married Naomi’s son, Mahlon. (Ruth 1:4) He was there when Naomi decided to move back to her home town of Bethlehem (Ruth 1:6-7), and when Ruth decided to stay with Naomi (Ruth 1:8-18), and when Ruth began gleaning in Boaz’s field (Ruth 2:1-3), and as Ruth’s relationship grew with Boaz, and so forth (Ruth 2:4-4:22)! He was there from beginning to end and if we take the time to read this little book of the Bible we will see it with our own eyes. God made a way! With every single turn of events, He was there! No matter the decisions made my human hearts, God is there and His plans will prosper.

Claim God’s Promise!

Ruth and Naomi’s story gives me hope! It lets me know God is there, making a way. The story reminds me that I need to keep my Heavenly Father at the center of all my thoughts, plans, and dreams. It reminds me that God’s will is the only thing in life worth chasing after. I pray you too can be filled with the hope this story gives. Believe in God’s promise…

He is there and He will make a way!

Peter’s Ministry

Acts 1:1-12:25, 1 Peter & 2 Peter

Peter’s Ministry is found in the New Testament, in the book of Acts. Peter was one of Jesus’ disciples that we read about in the first 4 books of the New Testament, the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). His ministry takes off after Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension into Heaven. Before Jesus ascends into Heaven He appears to the disciples and tells them to, “Go into the world and preach the Good News to everyone…” (Mark 16:15) **Side note – This is known as the Great Commission.**

At the end of the book of John, before Jesus ascends into Heaven, we read that Jesus challenges Peter. (John 21:15-19)

“When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?’

‘Yes, Lord,’ he said, ‘you know that I love you.’

Jesus said, ‘Feed my lambs.'”

— John 21:15 (ESV)

Jesus’ conversation with Peter at the end of the book of John was to help Peter get ready for his next mission, his ministry. Jesus knew Peter would need God to be at the center of his everything before he could head out and minister for the Kingdom of Heaven. The conversation continues through the end of chapter 21 and we find Peter filled with love for His Heavenly Father; ready and willing to serve Him wholeheartedly. This is where the story we are going to take a peek at begins!

Let’s open our Bibles to the book of Acts!

The books of Acts starts out with Jesus’ disciples becoming apostles. How amazing! These men learned from Jesus while He walked alongside them and now that He was in Heaven it was their mission to go out as apostles and share the Good News. Their motto was simple – Send me! This can be our motto too. We can go out like Peter, and the rest of the disciples, and spread the Good News. What’s even MORE exciting is God sent us a helper, the Holy Spirit!

When we dive into the first part of Acts we read all about the coming of the Holy Spirit! (Acts 2:1-4) Eeek…SO EXCITING!!! The Holy Spirit came down like flames of fire, settled on the believers, and filled them with the languages of the world so they could get out there and get started with their mission. (Acts 2:4-11) New’s flash – This is God’s promise in action. Great news, it’s the same today! God is with us! He will be our voice. All we have to do is just put our trust in Him. He will make a way and help us along His path because He’s near. As Believers in Christ we invite Jesus to live in our hearts on the day of our salvation. That’s when the Holy Spirit moves in! He’s with us ALWAYS; we have a helper on call 24/7!

God was there for Peter!

As you continue reading through Peter’s Ministry you see first-hand the faith Peter had in knowing God was near. He had bold faith because he knew he wasn’t alone. (Acts 2:14-47) Throughout the remainder of his ministry (Acts 4:1-12:25), Peter remained faithful all while holding onto God’s promises. He preached with a fierce desire and served his Promise Keeper without hesitation. He was persecuted along the way, beaten, thrown in jail, and eventually met his death, all for the glory of God. His faith could not be shaken, which is evident in the letters he wrote to Christians suffering in the name of Jesus. These letters are found in 1 & 2 Peter. Check the letters out for yourself! Read through these two books of the Bible and be encouraged.

“By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence. And because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.”

2 Peter 1:3, 4 (NLT)

Claim God’s Promise!

Peter’s story is such an amazing inspiration to me. How exciting to know he walked alongside Jesus, had face-to-face conversations with our Lord, saw first-hand all our Mighty God could do, and even witnessed the Holy Spirit coming down and settling on all the believers! Can you imagine being there with the group when the Holy Spirit came?! It’s mind-blowing! It just gets me all revved up and ready to go out and spread the Good News. Peter’s confidence during his ministry is contagious. Yeah, he died a martyr’s death, but he knew what he was doing and he did it anyway because he had faith and knew 100% God was with him.

Let this be where your belief begins, claim His promises today! Stand with Peter, knowing…

God is with you and will never leave you!
