Joy to the World is a song that’s been around for quite some time. Written in 1719, it was not initially intended to be a song, let alone a Christmas song! I found this interesting as I dug a little deeper, preparing myself to write this post, as I didn’t know the back story on it. I’m so glad the song eventually made it’s way to the “Christmas Playlist”, because it’s one that’s sung each and every Christmas in my neck of the woods and I love it!
I love it even more knowing that God’s Word was the inspiration. Psalms 98 to be exact! The theme behind Psalms 98 is JOY and victory – God’s victory. Jesus first came to us, God in flesh, as a Babe lying in a manger over 2,000 years ago. Once grown, He paid the ultimate price for all our sins, and He’s in Heaven right now preparing a place for all His children. (John 3:16) God’s victory will be made complete when He returns again, just as He has promised to! Because…He rules the world with truth and grace!!
“Shout to the Lord, all the earth; break out in praise and sing for joy! Sing your praise to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and melodious song, with trumpets and the sound of the ram’s horn. Make a joyful symphony before the Lord, the King!“

This is why we celebrate the birth of Jesus! His birth was the start of a plan already in motion from the beginning of Creation. Jesus, Immanuel – God with us – came to Earth for us!

John is talking about JESUS, friends! Have you made room for Him? The song, Joy to the World, reminds us to prepare a place just for Jesus.

Songs are one of the amazing ways God speaks to us. There’s just something special about a moment like this! It’s in these moments, when the lyrics touch our heart in a special way, that we can stand assured He is near. Songs have a way of uplifting my soul, and I pray you are able to find some joy in the ones I share. Walk by faith knowing He lifts us up and keeps us moving.
