Joyful News For Christmas – Luke 1:30-31

Joyful News For Christmas - A Heart Filled With A Bible Verse

“Then the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.” Luke 1:30-31 (NKJV)

The Christmas story is found in the New Testament. A story of Jesus’ birth!

O, rejoice! It all started with a special visit from an angel! (Luke 1:26-28) In Luke 1:30-31, we find Gabriel has given Mary some life-changing news. She was pregnant?! Being a virgin, this was news she didn’t understand. (Luke 1:34) And then Gabriel goes on to tell her she would be the mother of the Son of God! (Luke 1:35) Friends, Gabriel is talking about God in flesh! (John 1:1-14) This is an amazing miracle only God could orchestrate! And, our Savior’s miraculous birth is the reason we celebrate!

If you’ve read my other posts, you know by now the Life Application Study Bible is my jam! The Bible notes are amazing! AND, I LOVE sharing them with you. Check out the notes for Luke 1:34…

“The birth of Jesus to a virgin is a miracle that many people find hard to believe. These three facts can aid our faith: (1)Luke was a medical doctor, and he knew perfectly well how babies are made. It would have been just as hard for him to believe in a virgin birth as it is for us, yet he reports it as fact. (2)Luke was a painstaking researcher who based his Gospel on eyewitness accounts. Tradition holds that he talked with Mary about the events he recorded in the first two chapters. This is Mary’s story, not a fictional invention. (3)Christians and Jews, who worship God as the Creator of the universe, should have no doubts that God has the power to create a child in a virgin’s womb.”

JESUS’ BIRTH WAS A MIGHTY MIRACLE!

All throughout the Old Testament we can find reference to the foretelling of Jesus’ birth. Then in the Gospels, of the New Testament, we see the prophecy unfold! (Side note – The Gospels of the New Testament are the first four books: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.) Each author of the Gospels gives us a unique glimpse into the beginning of the most joyful story ever. We find the most detail in the book of Luke, and to round it all out we find out even more when we study the other three books. And, because of this I’d like to point out some verses found in the book of Matthew, because Matthew is where we find Joseph’s, Mary’s fiance, part of the story.

“(20)….an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. (21)And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.'”

Matthew 1:20-21 (NKJV)

In the first chapter of Matthew we read that Joseph also had a special visit from an angel! In verses 18 & 19, we read that Joseph just found out Mary is pregnant, he’s not the father, and he’s trying to figure out what to do. The law during this time was pretty intense and if he outed her for being “unfaithful” she could be stoned to death. But, this was not an act of unfaithfulness, this was a miracle-making God act! So, a visit from an angel sets things straight and Mary and Joseph continue through with the wedding plans. They get married and soon after Mary gives birth to baby Jesus. The greatest birth story ever and the reason behind the season.
