Devotion time is sacred for me. It’s something I look forward to each day. There’s just something special about taking the time each day to sit with my Lord and Savior. I love opening my heart to all He wants to fill it with. I have lots to learn during this time with God, and there’s always room to grow.
Throughout the years I’ve been introduced to some great devotional books. You might even say I’m a collector of such books. I love how each one I get is just the difference I need in the moment, and it’s even more special when I stumble along one that I keep coming back to. Guess what?!
MY GO-TO MOMMA PRAYER DEVOTIONAL IS ONE OF THEM!!
As a mom, it’s so important for me to keep my kids in my prayers and when a friend recommended a daily devotion that did just that I had to get it! And, I’m so glad I did!
AND, the devotional book is (drum roll, please). . .
The One Year Praying Through The Bible For Your Kids
by: Nancy Guthrie
I’m eager to tell you all about my go-to momma prayer devotional! The One Year Praying Through The Bible For Your Kids is such a great resource for anyone that has kids in their lives. This devotional does just what the title states! Each day’s reading includes a Bible verse, devotion, and prayer tailored for the many seasons of parenthood. I’ve had a ray of emotions with this book! I’m talking all the feels! It focuses in on so many important topics parents face along the journey, reminding me of some pretty significant things I need to be taking the time to pray about for my kids. It fills my heart up and I know it will fill the hearts of those that have kids in their lives!
Those “ONE YEAR” books. . .
Okay, confession time! I’m not always the best when it comes to a “One Year” reading plan, especially those that include dates for every single day in the year. The pressure is real! It can be overwhelming at times, especially when I fall behind. Which happens! But, with any devotional I use, I’ve learned (see…always room for growth) to use this resource moment by moment remembering every season of life is different. So, YES, this means I understand there will be days when it doesn’t happen! This doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying though, and I can proudly say I have read through mine multiple times and it’s been a blessing every year I have. It’s also been a blessing each day I’m able to read it.
So, if you’re wondering if you can stick with it?? Don’t worry! Habits take time and practice, and this is a devotional worth giving a try. As the habit builds, keep in mind what the devotion time is all about. Taking the time to spend with God while praying over the lives of the kids we know, love, and cherish! What better gift could you give to those precious kids around you.

Here’s a few cool things I love about the devotional!
- It’s filled with treasures of encouragement.
- It touches base on parenting kids in this world but not being of this world.
- The topics really touch your heart.
- The prayers are wonderful.
- It’s a resource you can use over and over again and still learn from.
- It really helps parents pour into their kids.
Throughout the years of use, I’ve filled mine with sticky tabs and bookmarks to remind me of the devotions that hit a little deeper, so I can revisit them when needed! It’s great being able to share my devotion journey and I love sharing what I’m reading in the particular devotional, which is huge because that means I love it enough to take the time to spread it’s goodness around. I really enjoy the prayers Nancy includes. The prayer words give me fresh, new ways to shower my kids with the prayers they really need! I write them down and come back to them often because, after all…THERE IS POWER IN PRAYER.
“Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.”
Colossians 4:2 (NLT)
This devotional reminds me of the importance a Christian parent has in showing their kids what a relationship with Jesus is all about. It’s also a wonderful reminder that Christian parents are not alone, and the struggles we face are not ours alone. I could seriously go on and on about it! I’ve had so many great moments with God when I open this book up.
It’s filled with treasures of encouragement.
