Our Shepherd Makes Us Rest
Oh Psalms 23, how I love you!! You are encouragement and comfort for the soul; your words are such a wonderful place to rest in.
I grew up memorizing the NKJV translation, but don’t you just love how the NLT translation words verse 2?!
“He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams.”
Psalms 23:2 (NLT)
This verse sets the stage for such a relaxing setting! I can just imagine myself lying down, comfy and cozy, nestled all slug in a lush green meadow! AND…I can hear that peaceful stream flowing by that David mentions. Oh, what a soothing place to be! It’s a place my soul longs to be…needs to be! It’s a place I put my hope in, a place I believe 100% that God offers to all His children.
Friends, this scene can be yours too!!
The Lord is our Shepherd and He wants nothing more than to take care of us. It’s in His care that we find the best rest ever.
I love how the NKJV translation says, “He makes me lie down”. You know, way back when, those words didn’t resonate the way they do now, and I am just so thankful HE MAKES ME!!! Because it’s not in my blood to rest, and so here He is telling me it’s time…you gotta go rest, girl!! So, I’m off to rest and want to leave you with ALL of Psalms 23, because it’s worth lying down with, getting all cozy, and soaking it all in. God’s promises flood this chapter! The words speak to the weary, giving encouragement and comfort. Our Shepherd makes us rest – it’s a blessing, friends!!
As you read the following I pray you are able to hear God’s voice and I pray you know He’s there offering you a rest your soul needs.
(1)The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
(2)He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
(3)He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
(4)Yea, though I walk through
The valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
(5)You prepare a table before me
In the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
(6)Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever!
