1 John 5:14-15

“And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him.” 1 John 5:14-15 (ESV)

Prayer Walk Intro (Week 5)

Let me ask you a few questions…

  • Do you believe in the power of prayer?
  • Have you experienced the power of prayer?
  • Do you understand just how amazing and wonderful a prayer life really is?
  • Did you know that praying changes things?? Yes, friends…

Throughout the Bible we see the power and amazement that comes from a praying life. It’s actually a concept that’s woven through the entire Word of God!! We learn about those who embraced their conversation time with the Lord. We learn that these same people completely and fully understood the importance of this time with their Heavenly Father.

I’m talking about the ordinary, but also – extraordinary, the flawed, but also – faithful, people that God used for His glory and for His purpose, just like you and me!! Friends, these people understood what it meant to keep the communication line up and running. They understood the meaning behind an amazing prayer walk!! They got what God intended prayer to be about. And, God gifted us with all their wonderful testimonies to rest in, reflect on, and revive with. All we have to do is open up our Bibles and fill our hearts!!

Friends, the Bible is a wealth of knowledge, filled with so many wonderful examples for us to live our lives by. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) I’m talking about some of the most…

Seriously, so many examples! Look at Peter’s life, Paul’s life, Stephen’s life, even Jesus’ life! They all spoke with God!! Wanna keep digging?? Check out the Old Testament! Noah, Moses, Daniel, Hannah, Samson, David…again, all spoke with God! They all chatted it up with the Lord!! And these are just a few of the many praying people we read about in the Bible. In fact, not only did they pray in confidence, but the lives of those they touched can also can be found praying! If you take the time to read through their stories you’ll find that prayer spread!!! It didn’t stop…doesn’t stop! It can’t!

All throughout Scripture we get glimpses into the “prayer lives” of those who came before us, and it’s so exciting to know that God included each and every one of these reminders for us! Yes, for us!!! They’re testimonies that inspire, encourage, and build up a confidence for a prayer walk that draws us closer to our Savior and Lord.

Friends, we can pray in confidence! We can believe God hears us!! We can 100% know, without a doubt, prayer brings change!

Remember, prayer is simply a one-on-one conversation with our Creator! It’s a conversation we get to personally have with our greatest, truest Friend!! Actually it’s THE BEST conversation we will ever have. A conversation that never-ends! A conversation that is always heard.

Prayer is needed!! It helps us grow closer and closer to God!! And, as we grow closer and closer to Him we get to know Him, we get to know His heart. The more time we spend with Him the more we gain! And…with this kind of growth comes a full life blessed with love, understanding, and clarity. Like the clarity to discern what 1 John 5:14-15 is all about!

Prayer Walk: 1 John 5:14-15

Now who doesn’t want some of that? God’s will is where it’s at!!! And prayer takes us there!

“Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”

Proverbs 3:6 (NLT)
Prayer Walk: 1 John 5:14-15

Prayer Walk: 1 John 5:14-15 (Week 5)

I mentioned above that God’s will is where it’s at, friends. It’s true!! God set everything in motion before the world even began. (John 1:1-5, Hebrews 11:3, Ephesians 1:11 & 2:10) His plans and purpose are divine, majestic, and mighty! (Psalms 33:11, Psalms 40:5, Jeremiah 29:11) It’s all for His glory!! AND…His plans and purpose are for all of creation. God’s will is what we should be chasing after.

God’s will exceeds anything we could ever dream up on our own. (1 Corinthians 2:9)

We must remember to center our lives – our hearts, our souls, our complete self – on our Sovereign Creator and pray His will be done…every day! Always! Eyes focused on the Author of it all!! (2 Corinthians 4:18) Hearts eager and willing to live a life worthy of His calling. (James 4:15) Prayers lifted up in genuine devotion and true repentance. Always seeking His will! In all we do to honor, worship, and glorify our Lord and King.

“And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him.”

1 John 5:14-15 (ESV)

How bout claiming these verses as your own?!? Come on, give it a try!!

Pray In Confidence

We can be confident God hears us when we pray, but let’s take that confidence a step further and trust His will with all the requests, petitions, and matters we bring before Him. Let’s put this kind of confidence into action!!!

“When we communicate with God, we don’t demand what we want; rather we discuss with Him what He wants for us.”

Life Application Study Bible, ©2004, p. 2153

When we let go of our expectations, our thoughts, our motives and “let God” things change!! When we go to our Creator in prayer with only His will on our mind things change!! When we pray like 1 John 5:14-15 tells us to THINGS CHANGE!! Prayer changes things when we…

CHANGE THE WAY WE PRAY!!

I need this reminder…sometimes on a daily! How about you?? I’m so thankful God blesses us with verses like this! Friends, take some time to meditate on this week’s verse and really let it soak in.

“And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”

1 John 2:17 (ESV)
