Prayer Walk Intro (Week 7)

Being reminded of God’s promises is a great way to flood your heart with hope! There’s encouragement and comfort in every single one of His promises.

When it comes to prayer we can be assured He is listening, because it’s one of His promises. He hears us!! Friends, if we take the time to open our Bibles – and, fill our hearts – we will see that God tells us over and over again about this promise.

“Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will hear you.”

Jeremiah 29:12 (ESV)

Prayer Walk: Jeremiah 29:12 (Week 7)

Jeremiah 29:12 is not only a verse that speaks of this very promise-keeping truth – God Hears Us – but it also teaches us to keep God at the center of our lives. It teaches us to do this no matter our circumstances.

Jeremiah’s letter to the exiles (Jeremiah 29:4-23) reminds us to pray diligently as we continue moving forward in life –

Leading up to chapter 29, we learn that Jeremiah continually pleads with God’s people to turn from the their wicked ways and repent. This however did not happen and Babylon seized the city and took the people captive.

In this Scripture passage, where we find today’s Prayer Walk Bible Verse, we read a letter Jeremiah wrote to those being held in captivity. They were going to be there a while (70 years!!) and this letter was instructing them to move forward with life where they were.

And, just like in this story, we need to hold fast to the truth that God is in control – always has been, always will be. His purpose was taking shape then just like it’s taking shape now. Remember, God’s timing is not ours, and according to this Scripture passage, we are instructed to move forward right where we are.

This letter reminded the captives that God had a plan. It’s a reminder that God’s plan will unfold accordingly…no matter what!! Jeremiah’s letter was full of instruction, reminders, and brought comfort to those in captivity, because it reiterated why they could trust in God. (Jeremiah 29:10-14)

God was there amongst the people of Judah, just like He’s near to you and I. Jeremiah continually urged the people to turn to their Creator, and it’s an urge for us as well.

“The Lord is close to all who call on Him, yes, to all who call on Him in truth.”

Psalms 145:18 (NLT)

Not only does He hear us, but when we come to God in prayer, calling upon Him in truth, He answers!!

“Call to Me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”

Jeremiah 33:3 (ESV)

And, just like God was working out His plans accordingly with the exiles, He’s also working them out in our lives too!! He will deliver us! We can be assured that amidst our circumstances He is there and He hears us. As we turn our thoughts over to Him, fixing our eyes upon Him, we need to remember prayer is essential. (Hebrews 12:2, Isaiah 26:3)

“And call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”

Psalms 50:15 (ESV)

Move Forward With God

God doesn’t want us to stay stuck.

The exiles were told to continue on with life…to build homes, plant gardens, marry, and have children. (Jeremiah 29:5, 6) God’s plans didn’t include them all dwindling away while they were stuck in Babylon – NOPE – He wanted them to make the most of it! Because…

God’s plans included them returning to their homeland. (Jeremiah 29:14) But, it was during the wait that He wanted His people to grow closer to Him. (James 4:8) And…not only that, but God wanted them to work towards peace and prosperity as they prayed for the welfare of the city they were being held captive in!!

Prayer Centered On God

No matter our circumstances, as Believers, we can be found in God. His steadfast love will carry us through and the promises He keeps will sustain us. As we move forward, right where we are, we get to pray to our Heavenly Father knowing – without a doubt – He hears us.

“But truly God has listened; He has attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, because He has not rejected my prayer or removed His steadfast love from me!”

Psalms 66:19-20 (ESV)

Friends, we get to stand on this solid truth!

Prayer is the way!!

“I love the Lord because He hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!”

Psalms 116:1-2 (NLT)

In Romans 8:26 we’re even told that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us when we don’t know what to pray. The truth behind this promise – God Hears Us – just keeps getting better and better! Because He is with us, abiding inside us!! He knows our thoughts, our hearts, and He knows what we need to pray even when we can’t find the words. What a wonderful truth nugget to solidify the fact that He is listening!! Come back next week as we explore Romans 8:26!
