Renewing Scripture: Isaiah - Part 1 @aheartfilled.com

Fall is a great time to focus on renewing our hearts and minds and the Major Prophets are a great place to find some renewing scripture!

The first of five books that make up the Major Prophets is Isaiah. So that’s where I started my fall reading this year!

I thought I’d share some of the renewing scripture the Holy Spirit has been stirring my heart with as I read through this super deep, intense, amazing book in hopes you too will find some renewing strength as you continue to be faithful and put your hope in the ONE TRUE GOD.

Renewing Scripture: Isaiah – Part 1

Time to fill up! Below you’ll find 10 scripture passages found in chapters 1-40 of Isaiah.

Take your time reading through each one. Fill your heart with God’s renewing words! Enjoy the journey – write them out, journal them, memorize them, dig in deeper if you want! Open your heart to receive God’s renewing strength, repent the sins that weigh heavy on your heart, and return to the One who loves you beyond measure.

It’s all about A HEART FILLED, friends!

Side Note – I’ve referenced all the verses using the NLT version, but I love exploring different translations so I encourage you to find your favorite translation for each. Delight in your search!

(1) Isaiah 1:27b

  • The theme of Isaiah is simple: Return, Repent, and Be Renewed.

“Those who repent will be revived by righteousness.”

Isaiah 1:27b (NLT)

(2) Isaiah 8:17

  • Waiting on the Lord can be hard, because His timing is NOT our timing. But, once we are able to embrace this fact our hope can be found in the waiting. God’s peace is sufficient!

“I will wait for the Lord, . . . I will put my hope in Him.”

Isaiah 8:17 (NLT)

(3) Isaiah 12:2

  • God’s strength ALONE is all we need. We don’t have to rely on ourselves. It’s all about “God-care”.

“See, God has come to save me. I will trust in Him and not be afraid. The Lord God is my strength and my song; He has given me victory.”

Isaiah 12:2 (NLT)

(4) Isaiah 25:1

  • Praise Him in everything. When we focus on God, and only God, we realize His plans will prevail no matter what.

O Lord, I will honor and praise your name, for you are my God. You do such wonderful things! You planned them long ago, and now you have accomplished them.”

Isaiah 25:1 (NLT)

(5) Isaiah 29:18-19

  • God’s joy is available for all those who call upon His name. Joy comes from within – the Holy Spirit makes it possible! No matter the circumstance God’s joy is where we find the peace, comfort, and drive to keep pushing through the darkness.

“In that day the deaf will hear words read from a book, and the blind will see through the gloom and darkness. The humble will be filled with fresh joy from the Lord. The poor will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.”

Isaiah 29:18-19 (NLT)

(6) Isaiah 30:15, 18

  • It’s our choice. Be faithful and fall into His loving arms.

“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: ‘Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.’ . . . So the Lord must wait for you to come to Him so He can show you His love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for His help.”

Isaiah 30:15, 18 (NLT)

(7) Isaiah 33:6

  • The “fear of the Lord” does NOT mean to be “afraid” of Him. Nope, it means we have a complete and deep respect for our Heavenly Father. God should hold the highest place in our lives and we should be loving and honoring the Lord for who He is. (Check out my Shine Bright-devo 3 for more on fear and reverence towards God.)

“In that day He will be your sure foundation, providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the Lord will be your treasure.”

Isaiah 33:6 (NLT)

(8) Isaiah 35:2-4

  • God promises renewal for the land AND renewal for His children! He is near AND He is our strength.

“Yes, there will be an abundance of flowers and singing and joy! The deserts will become as green as the mountains of Lebanon, as lovely as Mount Carmel or the plain of Sharon. There the Lord will display His glory, the splendor of our God. With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees. Say to those with fearful hearts, ‘Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.”

Isaiah 35:2-4 (NLT)

(9) Isaiah 40:7-8

  • A verse appropriate for the fall time! While we are blessed to walk this earth let us not forget to walk as children of the light, pressing forward in God’s will. In order to do this we need to be renewing our hearts and minds with the only thing that stands forever – God’s Word, the Bible!

“The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the Lord. And so it is with people. The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of God stands forever.”

Isaiah 40:7-8 (NLT)

(10) Isaiah 40:28-31

  • The Lord is our support and strength! Through His power alone, we will rise above our circumstances and soar high.

“Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of His understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:28-31 (NLT)

Reading through Isaiah has given me comfort, made my heart leap with joy, and renewed my mind and heart beyond measure, and I’m praying you too will find the peace and joy you long for as you explore all Isaiah has to offer.

The book of Isaiah is filled with SO MUCH renewing scripture. I only scratched the surface with this list. If you haven’t read through the entire book, make sure to take time for that soon and check out my other posts in my Renewing Scripture series – more will be coming soon!
