Renewing Scripture: Jeremiah – Part 1

Renewing Scripture: Jeremiah-Part 1 (aheartfilled.com)

Fall is a great time to focus on renewing our hearts and minds and the Major Prophets are a great place to find some renewing scripture!

The second of five books that make up the Major Prophets is Jeremiah. If you missed my Renewing Scripture posts, for the book of Isaiah, make sure to check them out HERE!

I’m sharing some of the renewing scripture the Holy Spirit has been stirring my heart with as I read through each of the Major Prophets found in the Old Testament. Like Isaiah, Jeremiah is also a super deep, intense, amazing book filled with renewing scripture to help encourage and strengthen us as we continue to be faithful and put our hope in the ONE TRUE GOD.

Renewing Scripture: Jeremiah – Part 1

Time to fill up! Below you’ll find 10 scripture passages found in chapters 1-9 of Jeremiah.

Take your time reading through each one. Fill your heart with God’s renewing words! Enjoy the journey – write them out, journal them, memorize them, dig in deeper if you want! Open your heart to receive God’s renewing strength, repent the sins that weigh heavy on your heart, and return to the One who loves you beyond measure.

It’s all about A HEART FILLED, friends!

Side Note – I’ve referenced all the verses using the NLT version, but I love exploring different translations so I encourage you to find your favorite translation for each. Delight in your search!

(1) Jeremiah 1:5a

  • We are NOT an after thought! This verse is for EVERY SINGLE PERSON!

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.”

Jeremiah 1:5a (NLT)

(2) Jeremiah 1:9b

  • The Lord will speak for us! He is our voice. In this verse He’s reminding Jeremiah of this great truth, just like He had to remind Moses of this great truth in Exodus 4:10-17.

“Look, I have put My words in your mouth!”

Jeremiah 1:9b (NLT)

(3) Jeremiah 2:2

  • Remember your devotion to God! Keep a constant renewing. Remember, renewal comes when we OPEN OUR BIBLES & FILL OUR HEARTS.

“This is what the Lord says: ‘I remember how eager you were to please Me as a young bride long ago, how you loved Me and followed Me even through the barren wilderness.'”

Jeremiah 2:2 (NLT)

(4) Jeremiah 2:22

  • It’s a heart matter, friends. We have to dig down deep in our hearts and allow God to cleanse us from the inside out.

No amount of soap or lye can make you clean. I still see the stain of your guilt. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!”

Jeremiah 2:22 (NLT)

(5) Jeremiah 3:4-5

  • Which one are you? A “talk the talk” kind of Christian OR a “walk the walk” kind of Christian? Sin means we have missed the mark. We all do it. No one is perfect. BEWARE THOUGH-Sin draws us away from God and the more we sit in it the further we drift from Him. This verse reminds Christians to turn from their sin, realign with God’s will, allow the Holy Spirit to guide them like they once did, and move forward in God’s perfect and holy direction.

“(4)Yet you say to Me, ‘Father, you have been my guide since my youth. (5)Surely you won’t be angry forever! Surely you can forget about it!’ So you talk, but you keep on doing all the evil you can.”

Jeremiah 3:4-5 (NLT)

(6) Jeremiah 3:14a

  • God wants us to return to Him. He actually waits patiently for us to return. Remember where your heart is.

“‘Return home, you wayward children,’ says the Lord.”

Jeremiah 3:14a (NLT)

(7) Jeremiah 4:3-4

  • Insert <<YOUR NAME>> in the place of “people of Judah and Jerusalem”, and read the verses aloud. How’s the condition of your heart? Can you relate to what God is saying here? The soil of our hearts needs to be rich and willing.

“(3)This is what the Lord says to the people of Judah and Jerusalem: ‘Plow up the hard ground of your hearts! Do not waste your good seed among thorns. (4)O people of Judah and Jerusalem, surrender your pride and power. Change your hearts before the Lord, or my anger will burn like an unquenchable fire because of all your sins.'”

Jeremiah 4:3-4 (NLT)

(8) Jeremiah 5:3

  • God is looking for honesty – pure and simple. Repent and be free.

Lord, you are searching for honesty. You struck your people, but they paid no attention. You crushed them, but they refused to be corrected. They are determined, with faces set like stone; they have refused to repent.”

Jeremiah 5:3 (NLT)

(9) Jeremiah 7:23-24

  • God’s patience is shown over and over again in the book of Jeremiah. In these verses we find God reminding His people about what happened when He led their ancestors out of Egypt. We seriously never learn! And, yet, God keeps chasing after us.

“(23)Obey Me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well! (24)But My people would not listen to Me. They kept doing whatever they wanted, following the stubborn desires of their evil hearts. They went backward instead of forward.”

Jeremiah 7:23-24 (NLT)

(10) Jeremiah 9:23-24

  • The Lord is our support and strength! Through His power alone, we will rise above our circumstances and soar high.

“(23)This is what the Lord says: ‘Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. (24)But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know Me and understand that I am the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things. I, the Lord, have spoken!'”

Jeremiah 9:23-24 (NLT)

Reading through Jeremiah has given me a tremendous opportunity to renew my mind and heart. It’s filled with reminders, wisdom, and warnings, as well as God’s grace and mercy. In the midst of all the chaos and destruction, God keeps His people on His mind and has a plan of restoration for them. That’s hope, friends! No matter what we’ve done, we all have the opportunity to turn to Jesus and repent. AND, when we do, God’s peace and joy is ours!

The book of Jeremiah is filled with SO MUCH renewing scripture. I only scratched the surface with this list. If you haven’t read through the entire book, make sure to take time for that soon and check out my other posts in my Renewing Scripture series – more will be coming soon!
