Renewing Scripture: Jeremiah – Part 2

Renewing Scripture: Jeremiah-Part 2 (aheartfilled.com)

Fall is a great time to focus on renewing our hearts and minds and the Major Prophets are a great place to find some renewing scripture!

The second of five books that make up the Major Prophets is Jeremiah. If you missed my Renewing Scripture posts, for the book of Isaiah, make sure to check them out HERE!

I’m sharing some of the renewing scripture the Holy Spirit has been stirring my heart with as I read through each of the Major Prophets found in the Old Testament. Like Isaiah, Jeremiah is also a super deep, intense, amazing book filled with renewing scripture to help encourage and strengthen us as we continue to be faithful and put our hope in the ONE TRUE GOD.

Renewing Scripture: Jeremiah – Part 2

Time to fill up! Below you’ll find 10 scripture passages found in chapters 10-29 of Jeremiah.

Take your time reading through each one. Fill your heart with God’s renewing words! Enjoy the journey – write them out, journal them, memorize them, dig in deeper if you want! Open your heart to receive God’s renewing strength, repent the sins that weigh heavy on your heart, and return to the One who loves you beyond measure.

It’s all about A HEART FILLED, friends!

Side Note – I’ve referenced all the verses using the NLT version, but I love exploring different translations so I encourage you to find your favorite translation for each. Delight in your search

(1) Jeremiah 10:23-24

  • God’s correction is a blessing! It’s a wake up call to turn from our selfish ways and get back on track with Him. I can’t imagine God not being there to correct me. My life would be in ruins without Him swooping in and letting me know when I’m traveling the wrong path.

“(23)I know, Lord, that our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course. (24)So correct me, Lord, but please be gentle. Do no correct me in anger, for I would die.”

Jeremiah 10:23-24 (NLT)

(2) Jeremiah 11:20

  • These are great prayer words! As Christians, we want God to examine our hearts and pluck out all the pride and corruption we build up inside.

O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, you make righteous judgments, and you examine the deepest thoughts and secrets. Let me see your vengeance against them, for I have committed my cause to you.”

Jeremiah 11:20 (NLT)

(3) Jeremiah 15:19

  • Restoration! When we stay close to God, filling our hearts up, we ARE able to speak His words and be the influence this world so desperately needs. Make sure to renew each day with God’s Word.

“This is how the Lord responds: ‘If you return to me, I will restore you so you can continue to serve me. If you speak good words rather than worthless ones, you will be my spokesman. You must influence them; do no let them influence you!'”

Jeremiah 15:19 (NLT)

(4) Jeremiah 17:7-8a

  • When we put our hope and confidence in the Lord we are strong!

“(7)But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. (8)They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8a (NLT)

(5) Jeremiah 17:9-10

  • More heart examination talk! We should be so thankful God examines our hearts. We live in a fallen world and we are human – the flesh wins sometimes – but God cares and reigns with justice.

“(9)The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? (10)But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.”

Jeremiah 17:9-10 (NLT)

(6) Jeremiah 22:3

  • It can be hard to do what is right all the time. This verse is a great reminder to help us stay the course.

“This is what the Lord says: ‘Be fair-minded and just. Do what is right! Help those who have been robbed; rescue them from their oppressors. Quit your evil deeds! Do no mistreat foreigners, orphans, and widows. Stop murdering the innocent!'”

Jeremiah 22:3 (NLT)

(7) Jeremiah 25:2-3

  • Jeremiah was faithful! Would you be able to endure 23 years? With God by your side, ALL things are possible. Jeremiah did it and so can we. Don’t forget – God’s timing is not our timing.

“(2)Jeremiah the prophet said to all the people of Judah and Jerusalem, (3)’For the past twenty-three years – from the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, until now – the Lord has been giving me His messages. I have faithfully passed them on to you, but you have not listened.'”

Jeremiah 25:2-3 (NLT)

(8) Jeremiah 25:4-6

  • This is a repeated theme in the Bible, and where there’s repetition there’s value and importance! Take heed of these verses and turn to Jesus.

“(4)Again and again the Lord has sent you His servants, the prophets, but you have not listened or even paid attention. (5)Each time the message was this: ‘Turn from the evil road you are traveling and from the evil things you are doing. Only then will I let you live in this land that the Lord gave to you and your ancestors forever. (6)Do not provoke my anger by worshiping idols you made with your own hands. Then I will not harm you.'”

Jeremiah 25:4-6 (NLT)

(9) Jeremiah 29:4-7

  • God wants us to thrive right where we are! So, make the most of where He has you.

“(4)This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives He has exiled to Babylon from Jerusalem: (5)’Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce. (6)Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them so that you may have many grandchildren. Multiply! Do not dwindle away! (7)And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.'”

Jeremiah 29:4-7 (NLT)

(10) Jeremiah 29:11

  • This is HOPE! We can fully trust our Creator because His plans for our lives far exceed anything we can even imagine. Stay close to your Savior and Lord.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.‘”

Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)

Reading through Jeremiah has given me a tremendous opportunity to renew my mind and heart. It’s filled with reminders, wisdom, and warnings, as well as God’s grace and mercy. In the midst of all the chaos and destruction, God keeps His people on His mind and has a plan of restoration for them. That’s hope, friends! No matter what we’ve done, we all have the opportunity to turn to Jesus and repent. AND, when we do, God’s peace and joy is ours!

The book of Jeremiah is filled with SO MUCH renewing scripture. I only scratched the surface with this list. If you haven’t read through the entire book, make sure to take time for that soon and check out my other posts in my Renewing Scripture series – more will be coming soon!
