A Heart Filled Winter Bible Reading Plan

CLICK HERE TO SKIP DOWN TO THE STUDY MATERIAL FOR WEEK 5
The Rest in Hope Winter Bible Reading Plan is a 7-week study that pairs the book of Hebrews with passages taken from the book of John. The last week the books of Matthew and Acts make a special appearance to help wrap the study up.

“The book of Hebrews links God’s saving power with His creative power. In other words, the power that brought the universe into being and that keeps it operating is the very power that cleanses our sins. How mistaken we would be to ever think that God couldn’t forgive us. No sin is too big for the Ruler of the universe to handle. He can and will forgive us when we come to Him through His Son…Christ’s sacrifice was final.”
Life Application Study Bible, ©2004, p. 2087
“In this Gospel, John provides clear evidence that Jesus is the Son of God and that by believing in Him we may have eternal life. John also provides unique material about Jesus’ birth. He did not come into being when He was born, because He is eternal.”

REST IN HOPE – WEEK 5

Friends, the Bible was meant to be read as a whole. Each and every book is beneficial to a heart’s journey. While preparing the Rest in Hope Bible Reading Plan I began looking for ways to pair Hebrews with other Scripture references and once I made it to the book of John the reading plan was complete!
To be able to pair the words from Jesus and His disciples with the book of Hebrews makes for one powerful heart warming experience! So, my friends, as you journey through the Rest in Hope study material may you find this warmth!
SIDE NOTE – Last winter I shared the Rest With The Gospels Winter Bible Reading Plan here at A Heart Filled, and I love the fact that more Gospel reading will be going down with this year’s winter Bible reading plan! The Gospels are a great place to begin a dig when a heart is on the hunt for more, more about Jesus because they shed light on the time He walked the Earth side-by-side His disciples. (To fill your heart with even more of the Gospel truth, make sure to visit the growing collection of devotions that revolve around Scripture found in these four books of the Bible: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John!)

Worship Song – Resting Place (To the Cross)
Resting Place (To the Cross), a song sung by I Am They, brings a simple, yet powerful, reminder to hearts everywhere. Jesus IS enough!
It is enough that Jesus died and that He died for us!!
The wondrous cross! [Jesus’] precious blood! [Jesus’] sacrifice!
Friends, Jesus is all we need! He’s it! His sacrifice paid it all. Listen to the words and be filled.

Hebrews 9

FILL UP WITH TRUTH FOUND IN HEBREWS 9
“(11)So Christ has now become the High Priest over all the good things that have come. He has entered the greater, more perfect Tabernacle in Heaven, which was not made by human hands and is not part of this created world. (12)With His own blood – not the blood of goats and calves – He entered the Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our redemption forever.“
Hebrews 9:11-12 (NLT)
“Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the Eternal Spirit, Christ offered Himself to God as a Perfect Sacrifice for our sins.“
Hebrews 9:14 (NLT)
“That is why He is the One who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.“
Hebrews 9:15 (NLT)
“There is no greater symbol of life than blood; blood keeps us alive. Jesus shed His blood – GAVE HIS LIFE – for our sins so that we wouldn’t have to experience spiritual death, eternal separation from God. Jesus is the source of life, not death. He gave His own life to pay our penalty for us so that we might live. After shedding His blood for us, Christ rose from the grave and proclaimed victory over sin and death.“

DIG DEEPER
To dig deeper into what you read about in Hebrews 9, fill your heart with…
- A Life With Jesus, the Better System – 1 John 1-5
John 14:1-4

FILL UP WITH TRUTH FOUND IN JOHN 14:1-4
“(1)Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in Me. (2)There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? (3)When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with Me where I am. (4)And you know the way to where I am going.”
John 14:1-4 (NLT)

KEEP READING JOHN
For this week’s reading I’ve actually spread this chapter of John out and paired it with both Hebrews 9 & 10. So, as we continue reading we’ll be filling up with more of Jesus’ goodness found in John 14. I did, however, want to leave you with a little extra reading if you so desire it. Included in one of my HEART HUNT Devos is a Bible Verse found in John 14!! This verse helps to elaborate on what it means to be able to REST IN HOPE. Check it out below!
- Peace For Our Hearts – John 14:27
Friends, rest in hope is made possible because Jesus is the source of our hope and peace!
Hebrews 10

FILL UP WITH TRUTH FOUND IN HEBREWS 10
“Christ came to offer His body on the cross for us as a sacrifice that is completely acceptable to God. God’s new and living way for us to please Him is not by keeping laws or even by abstaining from sin. It is by coming to Him in faith to be forgiven, and then following Him in loving obedience.”
Life Application Study Bible, ©2004, p. 2102
“(12)But our High Priest offered Himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then He sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. (13)There He waits until His enemies are humbled and made a footstool under His feet. (14)For by that one offering He forever made perfect those who are being made holy.“
Hebrews 10:12-14 (NLT)
“(19)And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter Heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. (20)By His death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. (21)And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house. (22)let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting Him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.“
Hebrews 10:19-22 (NLT)
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
Hebrews 10:23 (ESV)

DIG DEEPER
To dig deeper into what you read about in Hebrews 10, fill your heart with…
- Jesus Teaches About Forgiveness – Matthew 18:21-35
- More on God’s Promises
John 14:6-7, 12-31

FILL UP WITH TRUTH FOUND IN JOHN 14:6-7, 12-31
“As the way, Jesus is our path to the Father. As the truth, He is the reality of all God’s promises. As the life, He joins His divine life to ours, both now and eternally. Jesus is, in truth, THE ONLY LIVING WAY to the Father.”
Life Application Study Bible, ©2004, p. 1785
“(16)And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. (17)He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it isn’t looking for Him and doesn’t recognize Him. But you know Him, because He lives with you now and later will be in you. (27)I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.“
John 14:16-17, 27 (NLT)

KEEP READING JOHN
In chapter 14 of John Jesus tells us He is the way to the Father! The only way! I love the conversation being made between Him and His disciples. It’s a conversation in which the disciples are seeking more, but in reality the simplistic truth is all that’s needed.
- Jesus IS the Way – John 14:1-14
Jesus secured our eternity!!
