A Heart Filled Winter Bible Reading Plan

CLICK HERE TO SKIP DOWN TO THE STUDY MATERIAL FOR WEEK 6
The Rest in Hope Winter Bible Reading Plan is a 7-week study that pairs the book of Hebrews with passages taken from the book of John. The last week the books of Matthew and Acts make a special appearance to help wrap the study up.

“The book of Hebrews links God’s saving power with His creative power. In other words, the power that brought the universe into being and that keeps it operating is the very power that cleanses our sins. How mistaken we would be to ever think that God couldn’t forgive us. No sin is too big for the Ruler of the universe to handle. He can and will forgive us when we come to Him through His Son…Christ’s sacrifice was final.”
Life Application Study Bible, ©2004, p. 2087
“In this Gospel, John provides clear evidence that Jesus is the Son of God and that by believing in Him we may have eternal life. John also provides unique material about Jesus’ birth. He did not come into being when He was born, because He is eternal.”
Life Application Study Bible, ©2004, p. 1748

REST IN HOPE – WEEK 6

Friends, the Bible was meant to be read as a whole. Each and every book is beneficial to a heart’s journey. While preparing the Rest in Hope Bible Reading Plan I began looking for ways to pair Hebrews with other Scripture references and once I made it to the book of John the reading plan was complete!
To be able to pair the words from Jesus and His disciples with the book of Hebrews makes for one powerful heart warming experience! So, my friends, as you journey through the Rest in Hope study material may you find this warmth!
SIDE NOTE – Last winter I shared the Rest With The Gospels Winter Bible Reading Plan here at A Heart Filled, and I love the fact that more Gospel reading will be going down with this year’s winter Bible reading plan! The Gospels are a great place to begin a dig when a heart is on the hunt for more, more about Jesus because they shed light on the time He walked the Earth side-by-side His disciples. (To fill your heart with even more of the Gospel truth, make sure to visit the growing collection of devotions that revolve around Scripture found in these four books of the Bible: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John!)

Hebrews 11

FILL UP WITH TRUTH FOUND IN HEBREWS 11
“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.”
Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.“
Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)
“(13)All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on Earth. (14)Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own. (15)If they had longed for the country they come from, they could have gone back. (16)But they were looking for a better place, a Heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”
Hebrews 11:13-16 (NLT)

DIG DEEPER
To dig deeper into what you read about in Hebrews 11, fill your heart with…
- Looking Forward With Hope – Romans 8:18-39
For added digging, might I suggest you look into the lives of the Heroes of Faith mentioned in this chapter as well: Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses’ Parents, Moses, the people of Israel, and Rehab. And, don’t stop there check out the others briefly mentioned in verses 32-38!!
WOW!!!
THERE ARE SO MANY WONDERFUL FAITH-FILLED LIVES,
BUILT ON GOD’S PROMISES,
WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT
BECAUSE OF…
GOD’S WORD!!!
John 15:1-16:15

FILL UP WITH TRUTH FOUND IN JOHN 15:1-16:15
“(1)I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. (2)He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and He prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. (3)You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. (4)Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in Me.“
John 15:1-4 (NLT)
“(15)No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. (16)You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”
John 15:15-16 (NKJV)
“I have told you these things so that you won’t abandon your faith.”
John 16:1 (NLT)
“In [Jesus’] last moments with His disciples, Jesus (1)warned them about further persecution, (2)told them where, when, and why He was going, and (3)assured them that they would not be left alone, but that the Spirit would come. Jesus knew what lay ahead, and He did not want the disciples’ faith shaken or destroyed. God wants you to know you are not alone. You have the Holy Spirit to comfort you, teach you truth, and help you.“
Life Application Study Bible, ©2004, p. 1788
“(7)But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send Him to you. (8)And when He comes, He will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. (9)The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in Me. (10)Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see Me no more.“
John 16:7-10 (NLT)

KEEP READING JOHN
WOW!!! John 15 & 16 are packed full of JESUS TRUTH!!! I love it!! There’s just so much we can fill our hearts with when we take the time to rest at His feet. So, I’d love to encourage you to head back to John 15:1 and see what else you can glean. To get you started, check out…
- Apart From Christ – John 15:5-6
Friends, life with Jesus brings growth!!
Hebrews 12

FILL UP WITH TRUTH FOUND IN HEBREWS 12
“(2)We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the Champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting Him, He endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now He is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. (3)Think of all the hostility He endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.”
Hebrews 12:2-3 (NLT)
“(14)Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. (15)Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.“
Hebrews 12:14-15 (NLT)
“You have come to Jesus, the One who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel.”
Hebrews 12:24 (NLT)
“Eventually the world will crumble, and only God’s Kingdom will last. Those who follow Christ are part of this unshakeable Kingdom, and they will withstand the shaking, sifting, and burning. When we feel unsure about the future, we can take confidence from these verses. (Hebrews 12:27-19) No matter what happens here, our future is built on a solid foundation that cannot be destroyed. Don’t put your confidence in what will be destroyed; instead, build your life on Christ and His unshakeable Kingdom.“

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on Earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 (NLT)
“(9)My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given Me, because they belong to You. (10)All who are Mine belong to You, and You have given them to Me, so they bring Me glory. (11)Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to You. Holy Father, You have given Me Your name; now protect them by the power of Your name so that they will be united just as we are.”
John 17:9-11 (NLT)
“And I give Myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by Your truth.”
John 17:19 (NLT)
“A follower of Christ becomes pure and holy through believing and obeying the Word of God. He or she has already accepted forgiveness through Christ’s sacrificial death. But daily application of God’s Word has a purifying effect on our minds and hearts. Scripture points out sin, motivates us to confess, renews our relationship with Christ, and guides us back to the right path.”

KEEP READING JOHN
John 17 is all about PRAYER!! But, before we deep dive into this chapter let’s back up to the end of John 16 for a bit. In John 16:23-27, Jesus reveals that His death will make way for a new way to approach God.
- We Get Full Access to God Because of Jesus’ Sacrifice – John 16:23-27
This just blows my mind every time I read about this in the Bible!! The veil was torn because of Jesus’ death on the cross. He made a way for us to come to the Father directly, no priests needed!!! Friends, this means there are no barriers between us and God!! We get to enter into His presence because of Jesus!! AMAZED…BLESSED…FULL OF GRATITUDE for the selfless, sacrificial love that only Jesus is capable of!!
As I mentioned above, John 17 is all about prayer!! It’s in this chapter that we get to fill our hearts with the words Jesus prayed, in the Garden of Gethsemane, right before He was arrested and crucified. During this prayer, Jesus expresses deep sorrow and agony as He seeks God’s strength for what is about to come. He prays for Himself, His disciples, and for future Believers.
- Jesus Prays – John 17:1-26
Jesus’ love paid the price!
