A Heart Filled Winter Bible Reading Plan

The Rest in Hope Winter Bible Reading Plan is a 7-week study that pairs the book of Hebrews with passages taken from the book of John. The last week the books of Matthew and Acts make a special appearance to help wrap the study up.

“The book of Hebrews links God’s saving power with His creative power. In other words, the power that brought the universe into being and that keeps it operating is the very power that cleanses our sins. How mistaken we would be to ever think that God couldn’t forgive us. No sin is too big for the Ruler of the universe to handle. He can and will forgive us when we come to Him through His Son…Christ’s sacrifice was final.”
Life Application Study Bible, ©2004, p. 2087
“In this Gospel, John provides clear evidence that Jesus is the Son of God and that by believing in Him we may have eternal life. John also provides unique material about Jesus’ birth. He did not come into being when He was born, because He is eternal.”
Life Application Study Bible, ©2004, p. 1748

Below you’ll find study material for WEEK 7. This study material is designed to help a heart dig deeper into God’s Word all while finding rest in the hope Jesus offers. The Scripture referenced below points straight to Him! Friends, Jesus is all we need! So, as you make your way through the Rest in Hope Winter Bible Reading Plan look for Jesus, because He is the HOPE our hearts thrive on.
REST IN HOPE – WEEK 7

Friends, the Bible was meant to be read as a whole. Each and every book is beneficial to a heart’s journey. While preparing the Rest in Hope Bible Reading Plan I began looking for ways to pair Hebrews with other Scripture references and once I made it to the book of John the reading plan was complete!
To be able to pair the words from Jesus and His disciples with the book of Hebrews makes for one powerful heart warming experience! So, my friends, as you journey through the Rest in Hope study material may you find this warmth!
SIDE NOTE – Last winter I shared the Rest With The Gospels Winter Bible Reading Plan here at A Heart Filled, and I love the fact that more Gospel reading will be going down with this year’s winter Bible reading plan! The Gospels are a great place to begin a dig when a heart is on the hunt for more, more about Jesus because they shed light on the time He walked the Earth side-by-side His disciples. (To fill your heart with even more of the Gospel truth, make sure to visit the growing collection of devotions that revolve around Scripture found in these four books of the Bible: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John!)

Hebrews 13

FILL UP WITH TRUTH FOUND IN HEBREWS 13
“For God has said, ‘I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.’“
Hebrews 13:5b (NLT)
“So we can say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my Helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?'”
Hebrews 13:6 (NLT)
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them.”
Hebrews 13:8-9 (NLT)
“(12)So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make His people holy by means of His own blood. (13)So let us go out to Him, outside the camp, and bear the disgrace He bore. (14)For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.”
Hebrews 13:12-14 (NLT)
“Now may the God of peace – who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant of His blood – may He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.”
Hebrews 13:20-21 (NLT)

DIG DEEPER
“Hebrews is a call to Christian maturity. It was addressed to first-century Jewish Christians, but it applies to Christians of any age or background. Christian maturity means making Christ the beginning and end of our faith. To grow in maturity, we must center our life on Him, not depending on religious ritual, not falling back into sin, not trusting in ourselves, and not letting anything come between us and Christ. Christ is sufficient and superior.“

John 18:36-37

FILL UP WITH TRUTH FOUND IN JOHN 18:36-37
“Jesus said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, My servants would fight to prevent My arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now My kingdom is from another place.'”
John 18:36 (NIV)
“‘You are a king, then!’ said Pilate. Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to Me.’“
John 18:37 (NIV)

KEEP READING JOHN
The verses listed above are the last ones the Rest in Hope Bible Reading Plan include for the book of John, but this doesn’t mean that’s the end of the reading journey!! The last 3 chapters in John include the most important part of Jesus’ ministry and the reason why He came to Earth as God in flesh!! It’s the part of the story worth resting in for a bit longer. That is why it’s included in this part of the study material – to give us as much time as needed to soak it all in!
So, keep reading friends because there is MORE, MORE about Jesus in the following Scripture!! AND…filling our hearts with this part of Jesus’ journey is sooo worth the extra time.
- Jesus is Flogged, Mocked, and Made to Carry His Cross – John 18:38-19:1-17
- Jesus is Nailed to the Cross – John 19:18-27
- Jesus Paid the Price in Full – John 19:28-37
- Jesus is Placed in the Tomb – John 19:38-42
- Jesus Rose From the Dead and the Tomb is Empty – John 20:1-10
- Jesus Conquered Death and Begins Appearing to His Disciples – John 20:11-21:25
Friends, Jesus’ death and resurrection is the reason we can rest in hope!!
Worship Song #3 – The Commission
As Believers, we are called to GO AND TELL THE WORLD ABOUT JESUS!!
Friends…
Jesus conquered death!
He holds the keys!
Where He goes we will go someday!
THIS IS NEWS WORTH SHARING!!!

Matthew 28:18-20

FILL UP WITH TRUTH FOUND IN MATTHEW 28:18-20
“(18)Jesus came and told His disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in Heaven and on Earth. (19)Therefore, GO and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. (20)Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the ages.’“
Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT)
“Jesus is Lord of the Earth, and He died for the sins of people from ALL NATIONS. We are to go – whether it is next door or to another country – and make disciples. It is not an option but a command to all who call Jesus ‘Lord’. We are not all evangelists in the formal sense, but we have all received gifts that we can use to help fulfill the great commission. As we obey, we have comfort in the knowledge that Jesus is always with us.”

Acts 1:1-14, 2:1-47

FILL UP WITH TRUTH FOUND IN ACTS 1:1-14, 2:1-47
“‘But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be My witnesses, telling people about Me everywhere – in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the Earth.’ After saying this, He was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see Him.“
Acts 1:8-9 (NLT)
“As they strained to see Him rising into Heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. ‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘why are you standing here staring into Heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into Heaven, but someday He will return from Heaven in the same way you say Him go!‘”
Acts 1:10-11 (NLT)
“(32)God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this. (33)Now He is exalted to the place of highest honor in Heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as He had promised, gave Him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.”
Acts 2:32-33 (NLT)
“‘(36)So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!’ (37)Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what should we do?’ (38)Peter replied, ‘Each of you must repent of your sins, turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to show that you have received forgiveness for your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (39)This promise is to you, and to your children, and even to the Gentiles – all who have been called by the Lord our God.’ (40)Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, ‘Save yourselves from this crooked generation!’ (41)Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day – about 3,000 in all.“
Acts 2:36-41 (NLT)
“A healthy Christian community attracts people to Christ. The Jerusalem church’s ZEAL for worship and brotherly love was contagious. A healthy, loving church will grow in numbers. What are you doing to make your church the kind of place that will attract others to Christ?”
