Psalm 62:5-8

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.” Psalms 62:5-8 (NIV)

A Rest With Jesus Moment

In Psalms 62 David shares with us a great example of a rest with Jesus moment that’s totally worth checking out.

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.”

Psalms 62:5-8 (NIV)

The way that David wraps this Scripture passage up really speaks to me. The chat ends with David telling us to pour our hearts out to God! This is one of the ways our rest with Jesus moments may look like. Pouring out our hearts to Him is a release our souls need. David did it, and so should we!

All throughout the book of Psalms we read about David acknowledging God as his refuge, shelter, and fortress. God was where David found safety and hope and with this came complete, full rest! Not only that, but because David took the time to rest with his Savior and Lord he got to know Him personally and was able to trust God with everything. With this trust came the confidence to pour it all out at His feet!

We find this assurance in every Psalm David wrote! With every single page turn, we learn more and more about him. We learn that his life was full of adventure, demands, rewards, struggles, exhaustion, and even heart-break. But, we also see where his heart was the entire time, and because of this, his life was also full of joy, hope, love, and peace. He chased after God, taking the much-needed time to rest in the shelter of the Almighty. What an amazing example and wonderful place to gather some encouragement!!

Friends, it’s when we fully embrace this kind of rest with Jesus moment that we find our hope and we gain God’s peace. So, open up your Bible and dig into Psalms. Allow the words David wrote to sink in and inspire you today.

Fill your heart!

Let’s zoom out a little! Take a peek at how David started out Psalms 62…

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him.”

Psalms 62:1 (NIV)

In verse 5 he then repeats the words “my soul finds rest in God“, and continues to explain the why, as well as the importance, of these words all the way through the remainder of this Psalm.

“One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: ‘Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love’; and, ‘You reward everyone according to what they have done.'”

Psalms 62:11-12 (NIV)

God’s power is always on full display, friends! When we silently rest in His presence it becomes all so clear. His unfailing love surrounds us, and as we pour our hearts out to Him we gain a peace only He can lavish upon us. And, it’s only made possible because we chose to embrace our rest with Jesus moment!

David knew what resting in God’s presence done for his soul, and that’s why he wrote about it. His words are a wise help guide that shouldn’t be ignored. We can find the rest our souls long for when we pour our hearts out to Jesus. Rest at His feet today, friends, and pour your heart out to your Maker!
