Restful Shelter

God is where we find the restful shelter our souls need! What comfort this verse is to my heart! What about you? It’s reminding us that when we draw near to God, dwelling in His presence and putting our complete trust in the Most High, our Almighty God is where we find complete and full rest!! When we choose to abide in Christ, we gain His divine rest. It’s a rest full of protection, peace, strength, support, help, encouragement, joy…and the list goes on and on. Friends, THIS is something we so desperately need as we navigate through life here on Earth, because this world is not always easy!

Did you catch the words “shelter” and “shadow” in Psalms 91:1? What pictures comes to mind when you think of these two words?? Stop and think a minute…

Shelter, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, means something that covers or affords protection; a position or the state of being covered and protected. Shadow, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, could mean shelter from danger or observation. These two words are powerful!! They tell us God keeps us safe. If you keep reading the definitions for “shadow” you’ll find it also can mean inseparable companion. So, God is our inseparable companion that offers us a covering of protection!

Now, check out what Psalms 91:2-4 tells us…

“(2)This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him. (3)For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. (4)He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.“

“Like a great eagle who covers its young with its wings, God covers us, and under the wings of His protection we find comfort and refuge in the middle of the battle. God is a faithful protector. He protects us in the midst of attack, puts His shield around us, and guards us.”

I’m so thankful God offers restful shelter under His wings!! AND, I’m so very thankful Psalms 91 exists as a comforting reminder. I encourage you to keep reading the rest of Psalms 91. There’s only 16 verses and they are so worth the read, friends!!

Dwelling in His shelter is a covering of protection!

Resting in His shadow is safety and comfort!

Rest In His Presence

We need His restful shelter! Think about it…how much better is a person to rest when they feel safe? God gives us a rest this world cannot. His rest far exceeds the best night sleep you’ve ever had! It’s a rest that keeps us going with an assurance only our Most High, Almighty can provide. When we gain His rest we gain the strength we need for every situation, every obstacle, every hardship, EVERYTHING Satan throws at us!!
