Return To Rest Bible Verse
I couldn’t pick between NKJV and NLT for this verse! I like them both!! Studying them side-by-side helped me gain an even better understanding into what I needed to glean from the words found in this Psalm. Let’s check them out together!!
New King James Version Insight
“Return to your rest, O my soul, For the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.”
Psalms 116:7 (NKJV)
First of all, I absolutely love the NKJV wording, “dealt bountifully“! There’s just something about the word bountiful that puts my heart at peace and overwhelms me with gratitude. Secondly, I really like how the NKJV says, “Return to your rest, O my soul“! The wording is poetic yet, also serves as a reminder of what mere mortal souls continuously do. We get caught in a never-ending cycle and have to return often to this rest, instead of just staying put.
New Living Translation Insight
“Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me.”
Psalms 116:7 (NLT)
If you look at the NLT wording it simply states, “the Lord has been good” therefore a soul can “rest again“. Just pure heartwarming truth here!! Our Almighty Creator’s care allows rest. God will not stop being good to us. He’s gonna keep dealing with us bountifully. Knowing this should make returning to rest in His presence simple.
A Lesson On Rest
Bottom-line here, friends, Psalms 116:7 teaches us we can return to rest because the Lord is the Great I Am! The Great I Am deals abundantly and generously with His children! As Believers we get to rest in this truth…again and again!! So often self gets in the way and we steer away from His perfect rest, but we can be assured His goodness and mercy will bring us back into His shelter over and over again, if need be, because this is exactly how our Mighty God works in and through our lives. Our Heavenly Father doesn’t give up! He provides continual love and care for each and every single one of His children!
God’s love and care is where rest can be found.
This reminds me of the words Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28-30!
“(28)Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
(29)Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
(30)For My yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
God is humble and gentle at heart!
We learn through His Word, friends!! When we open up our Bibles and allow the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts we understand just what it means to rest in His presence. A valuable lesson!! It’s this kind of rest our souls long for and want to return to!
So, RETURN to rest, friends.
