Shine Bright For Jesus Devotion Series Intro

“Shine bright for Jesus!”

This is my all time favorite mom quote! I find myself including this in almost every conversation I have with my kids. I love shining bright for Jesus, and love reminding my kids to shine bright for Him as well. At times it can be a challenge. And, God understands this! That’s why He’s available 24/7. He wants us to know this with all our heart and live it out daily. It sure does take a conscience effort, though, to keep God at the center of our everything. Are you all about that sparkle?! I am and I’m here to encourage you to be as well. Shining bright for Him can make all the difference inward and outward.

I love how every time I open my Bible a new verse speaks to me and has me pondering how I can be more like Him as the days wear on. And, the Bible is filled with so many great verses reminding us how to shine bright for Jesus. I’m on a mission not only to fill my Bible journal with them all but to spread them around like little rays of sunshine, so this is a devotion series that will be continually growing, and there’s no set order for reading them in. Make sure to check back often and join me as I seek out all the little bursts of sunshine the Bible is flooded with to help us all keep shining as we go.

Shine Bright Devotion 1

2 Corinthians 3:7

“The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away.” 2 Corinthians 3:7 (NLT)

Shine Bright Scripture Chat

This verse reflects back to the Old Testament when Moses found himself back up on that mountain getting those Ten Commandments written out for the second time.  Moses spent 40 days and 40 nights in the presence of God.  (Read Exodus 34:28-35) Once the stone tablets were finished Moses made his way back down the mountain. It was time to pass along God’s commandments to all the people.

“When Moses came down Mount Sinai carrying the two stone tablets
inscribed with the terms of the covenant, he wasn’t aware that his face
had become radiant because he had spoken to the Lord.”

Exodus 34:29 (NLT)

Moses’ face was still SO BRIGHT after coming down from the mountain from being in God’s presence.  All of the Israelites knew why his face was shining with glory.  Can you imagine the stories that were passed down from generation to generation because of this?  Can you imagine if we ALL spent devoted time daily with God how bright the world would be?  How bright we could all shine for Jesus!  This is how we spread the good news through the world…by being in the presence of GOD!  We must remember this needs to be a daily devoted habit because the brightness fades and we need to put that shine on EVERY day.

SHINE ON

REFLECT ON IT – Moses was with God 40 days and 40 nights and that radiant glory was already fading as he made his way down the mountain.  Yet it was still BRIGHT enough when he approached the people below!  This is how we can be if we choose to spend time with God.  And, did you notice?  Every time Moses would chat with the Lord in the Tent of Meeting his brightness would charge up again.  How amazing!  What’s even more amazing is we can go to God directly now, thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice.  We charge ourselves up by spending our devoted time with Him.  This means we should be diving into His Word daily and praying without ceasing.  Like Moses, when we chat with the Lord His bright light shines through us for His glory.  I stand in awe of how much this excites me.

Now, lift up a prayer and go out and SHINE BRIGHT FOR JESUS today!

  1. Good morning Becky, I am inspired by your Shine bright for Jesus Devotion 1. As I read this devotion an oldie but hoodie song cane to my heart. “This little light of mine” one day during covid I walked out of a gloomy grocery store where everyone had grumpy faces and nor so good spirits about them. I couldn’t help myself , as I walked out of the store my spirit was stirred and I held up my finger toward Jesus and sang “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine let it shine let it shine. Chris just smiled and said yup, we are the light of the world.
