THE ART OF STREWING MAKES LEARNING FUN
Have you heard of strewing? It’s one of the many things I love to chat about when it comes to homeschooling. Not only is it an intriguing word, that definitely sparks a conversation, but it’s a really cool concept that’s worth its weight in gold. So, let’s dive into – THE ART OF STREWING!
THE ART OF STREWING IS ABOUT EXPLORING
Strewing is when we, the homeschool mommas, lay out fun things around the home our kids stumble upon and explore at will. This can be anything from a basket of books to puzzles, games, art supplies, building blocks…the skies the limit!
BOOKS!!
You can never go wrong with more books in your home!
I loved going to the library and checking out books that covered topics my kids were interested in, unit studies we were exploring at the moment, and even diy crafty kind of books. I’d come home and sprawl them around the house. I had a basket in the living room and a basket in between my kids’ rooms I’d fill up with the books I’d check out. I’d place them around the house in hopes they’d be discovered, explored, and enjoyed.
Let’s say I grabbed a book on origami, I’d also add paper and scissors to the basket. That way if they got inspired they would have the supplies on hand to create!
ARTS ‘n CRAFTS!!
If you’re anything like me you pick these supplies up wherever you go. Now, be honest! You know these supplies are out of control. So STREW THEM!
I’d go through my art supplies and pull out various things to lay out in the school room for my kids to find and get to creating. I’d try to rotate these items out to keep fresh ideas rolling.
This is such a great way to use the art ‘n craft supplies you bought with great intentions and never got around to making. Strew them around and let your kids go to town!
GAMES & PUZZLES!!
Did you know games and puzzles are a homeschoolers best friend?
Games and puzzles are a great item to strew! I am a huge game geek and homeschooling gave me even more opportunities to add great games and puzzles to our collection. THAT’S A WIN!
Strewing them made game time spontaneous and added in extra time around the table with my kids. AN EXTRA WIN!
THE ART OF STREWING IS A JOURNEY
Throughout the years strewing has looked different in my home. It started out with picture books and blocks and led to hot glue guns, baking pans, and so many cherished memories.
Strewing is fun! It adds a little extra excitement to your homeschooling journey!
I was always eager to find out what items would be picked up, explored, used, and enjoyed. And, yes, I did occasionally point out an item or two…because, this momma, was ready to get the exploration on!
So, what are you waiting for?!
